How To Collect Sea Treasure

We want to encourage you to connect with your children in a creative way, both on rainy days and days that we can enjoy the outdoors with our children.

In this blog we have a simple way of ticking a few boxes, cleaning beaches and making a nice keep sake. Basically glass on beaches os broken down into small pieces over time and all of the edges are smoothed off as it os brought in and out by the tide.

The best beaches are stoney beaches to search for this ‘sea treasure’ so we recommend:

• Penarth, South Wales

• Porth Padrig, Anglesey

• Borth Beach, Ceredigion

• Cold Knap, Barry

Grab a bucket and some gloves (if you wish but pockets will also do. Then search the beach for all different colours of glass and all different sizes. You can also do this with colourful stones, bits of flint and shells.

Be careful for bits of glass that might not have been smoothed down by the sea!

Then when you get home use an empty jar that you have saved and fill this with sea treasure. You can even add to this every time you go to the beach, or create different jars for different shells or stones. If you want to be really fancy you could pop some battery operated lights (like these ones from Ikea) or a battery operated tea light, in the jar, and use as a nightlight.
